SETTING FAMILY INTENTIONS FOR 2022
After the chaos of the past year with its ups and downs, twists and turns, unexpected events, it’s so important if not critical, to really take a moment at the beginning of this year to take a breath, take a moment, and take some time to reflect.
Typically the beginning of a new year starts at a rapid speed, catching up on tasks, projects and work which we may have put-off during the festive season. We declutter the house of the remnants of Christmas; wrapping paper, decor, the beloved tree, gifts…
This year, we encourage you to start off from a place of calm, quiet, love and intent. The world is running at such an incredible pace, and seems to get faster and faster. Finding time to catch our breaths, and helping our little ones catch theirs, is not easy. Starting a year from a place of calm is so important for both ourselves and our children! Here are a few ideas we have compiled for you and your family, going into 2022!
BE SPECIFIC
All intentions take conscious work, and it’s no secret that after a few weeks, sticking to them seems to get harder and harder. That’s why being specific about your intentions or goals will help keep you on track. Brainstorming these intentions with your partner and children is also very important for your family as a unit; ensuring you all understand and feel a part of the exciting possibilities for the year ahead.
If you intend on being healthier, how? Make specific goals with your family; maybe it’s going on two family walks together a week, making a new vegetable or salad dish together once a week.
BE REALISTIC
It’s all fine and well to have big ideas and goals, but are they always attainable, or are they just setting you up for disappointment? If your child wants to become a world champ gymnast, that’s beautiful! But suggest starting with the local gym centre and mastering a new move every month. Help your children feel heard in their dreams, and manage the realistic steps to get there.
BE POSITIVE
Be conscious of the words you use when taking these moments and setting your intentions for the year. “I hope..” “I believe…’ “We will…”
Set the tone for a great year ahead, and see your goals manifest into reality! It will also be a beautiful moment to teach your children how to speak positively and with affirmation!
BE MINDFUL
After setting your and your families intentions, find a way to be mindful of keeping on track with them throughout the year. Create check-in cards you have a look at maybe once or twice a month, where you tick off or check in together, reflecting on how you are doing in maintaining or reaching your intentions. Put up sticky notes with the agreed intentions around your mirrors or in your cupboards. Create posters or cards you stick on the fridge with reminders.
Come up with some fun ideas with the kids with how to check-in on your years intentions!
BE HAPPY
All too often intentions and goals can be quite serious. We encourage you to also come up with some fun, positive, and happy ones with the family! Maybe an intention is games night with the family once a week, or baking together. Maybe it’s doing a new and fun activity once a month, or visiting a new place around your area.
Be happy, and spread this happiness around you…you will be surprised with how contagious it is 😉
